Faithfulness

I recently read about an old man, walking the beach at dawn, who     noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea. Catching up with the youth, he asked what he was doing. The answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left in the    morning sun. ‘But the beach goes on for miles and miles, and there are millions of starfish,’ countered the man. ‘How can your effort make any  difference?’ The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it to safety in the waves. ‘It makes a difference to this one,’ he said.”

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

As we examine our lives in the light of God’s word there are many  subjects that call out for our priority. I think of our devotional  relationship; reading His Word and praying daily. I think of our  stewardship or time, talent and finances. In this verse it says that God requires faithfulness. Many a home has been shattered by an unfaithful spouse. Jobs have been lost because people were not faithful to their employer.

Being a member of a local congregation is an important part of our  spiritual lives. People expect me to be standing before them in this class every Sunday because that is my responsibility. I show up every week not because I have to but because I want to. Even if I was not the teacher I would be here unless I was physically unable or out of town. Faithfulness was something instilled in me by the man who taught me what it meant to be a believer.

I do it because I want to, not because I have to do it. I love this church. I love the pastor of this church. I love the people who make Friendship Baptist Church what it is. This city is filled with senior adults that need a spiritual home like we have. What effort are we making to invite and encourage them to attend our great church. Every member is a part of the answer we have to question, “How can we make a difference in the city of Owasso?” We, like the young man in the illustration, can make a  difference one person at a time.
